Mit dem F-E-P kann das Image der Psychologie und ihrer Fachvertreter erhoben werden. Das Instrument ist bei den Psychologen zur Erfassung des Selbstbildes und des vermuteten Fremdbildes einzusetzen sowie bei Nicht-Psychologen zur Erfassung des Fremdbildes.

Eine Analyse des Fachimages ist bei Laien und Vertretern anderer Berufsgruppen und Wissenschaftszweige sinnvoll. Ausgangspunkt der Testkonstruktion waren 12 von Hofstätter eingesetzte Items, die um 36 neu konstruierte Items ergänzt wurden. Der F-E-P besteht aus 32 Items, die als Aussagen formuliert sind und sich auf gängige Vorurteile und Klischees über Psychologen und Psychologiestudierende beziehen.

Es wurde eine Stichprobe mit Psychologen und Psychologinnen und Nicht-Psychologen befragt. Die Gütekriterien wurden bislang nicht untersucht. Angeführt werden Mittelwerte und Standardabweichungen einzelner Items. With the F-E-P, the image of psychology and its professional representatives can be assessed.
